What Lingers in the Dark

It was a horror show I couldn’t tear my eyes off of

The beating heart, the pounding beat – together, they were one

Limbs brushed as the drunken became those we bowed down to

Gods and goddesses of rebellion and chaos

Blood and glitter mixed in equal measure

It was a pleasure to die for

It was a pain we begged for

The screams mingled with giggles

No sounds of fear for miles

These were the beasts who inhaled toxic air like it was a heaven-send

They evoke the terror, they don’t wallow in it

Kings and Queens who will lose their heads for a cheering audience

Demons and Monsters who will make their way into somebodies nightmares

Some people are afraid of the dark

And sometimes, the dark is afraid of people
